💡 مفاتيح الحصة (أهم 3 أفكار وزارية):
  • Modal Shift: can → could, will → would, may → might, must / have to → had to.
  • Unchanged Modals: could, would, should, might, and ought to remain unchanged in reported speech.
  • Time and Place Words: now → then, today → that day, tomorrow → the next/following day, yesterday → the day before, here → there.
⚠️ فخ الوزارة (انتبه لا تخطئ هنا):
'Could you please help me?' is an polite request; when reported as a request with 'ask + object + to + infinitive': He asked me to help him!

In these exam examples, assume a past reporting context and apply the normal backshift. In general usage, backshift and changes of time or place depend on whether the information and context are still current.
